In a historic setting, security is not only about protecting buildings and assets, but also about making them fully accessible to the public. This was the perspective behind ELAN’s participation in Heritage Security Sicilia, where the company brought its expertise to the field of cabling solutions for intrusion detection and fire safety systems. The event, dedicated to the security of historical and cultural heritage, was held in the evocative setting of Villa Malfitano in the heart of Palermo, bringing together system integrators, designers and professionals from across the security sector. It was a particularly meaningful setting for ELAN, which has been developing solutions for the security industry for forty years and is celebrating this important milestone in 2026.

Security as a way to make heritage accessible

“It is an honour and a pleasure for me to be here and to talk about security in environments like these,” said Cristina Andreoni, CEO of ELAN, during an interview with S News at the event. Security takes on a particularly important role when it comes to historic and prestigious sites, which must be both preserved and made accessible to the public. The presence of visitors creates specific requirements: ensuring people’s safety becomes an integral part of the possibility of experiencing and discovering these spaces. “These environments need to be accessible to the public, and it is therefore increasingly important to ensure the safety of the people who come to admire these wonderful places,” Andreoni explains. It is precisely at the intersection of heritage, people and technology that ELAN’s solutions come into play.

ELANFIRE and ELANDATA: cabling solutions for safety

At Heritage Security Sicilia, ELAN presented a range of solutions dedicated to security, with a particular focus on intrusion detection and fire safety systems. These include the ELANFIRE range of cables, designed for fire safety applications, and the ELANDATA range, dedicated to data transmission and available with certification for safe reaction in the event of fire. “We have a complete range for security, both for intrusion detection and fire safety,” Andreoni explains. “Today we are presenting our ELANFIRE cables to ensure safe protection and evacuation in the event of fire, as well as the ELANDATA range, which is also certified for safe reaction in the event of fire.” The choice of cabling is therefore an important element in the overall design of a security system. The reliability and certified characteristics of the products contribute to building infrastructures capable of meeting the specific requirements of the environments in which they are installed.

Standards and training: security starts with awareness

For ELAN, however, security does not end with choosing the right product. Standards and regulations play a fundamental role, as does the ability of professionals to understand and apply them correctly. “Regulations make the difference, and awareness makes an even greater difference,” says Andreoni. “Security, of course, does not depend only on the products, but also on being aware of how to install safe and certified products.” This is one of the reasons why ELAN has been investing in training for many years, with the aim of providing practical support to designers and professionals working in the sector. The company’s collaboration with CEI – the Italian Electrotechnical Committee reflects the same approach: encouraging dialogue and promoting a technical culture based on knowledge of standards, product quality and informed design choices.

Forty years of innovation, looking to the future

For ELAN, participation in Heritage Security Sicilia takes on an even more special meaning in 2026, the year in which the company celebrates 40 years in business. “We are happy to be able to share this milestone in such a beautiful setting and to carry forward a family tradition linked to innovation, in order to design the future,” Cristina Andreoni concludes. Forty years of company history therefore represent not only an anniversary, but the continuation of a path built on quality, expertise and a constant focus on the evolving needs of the market. From Villa Malfitano, a place where past and present coexist, ELAN continues to look towards the future of security with the same perspective: protecting what we have, making it accessible and safe through reliable technologies, expertise and innovation.
